Day 1
Classroom Routines and Oral Language development

In these sessions, we will focus on:

  • developing oral language skills through the extensive use of the Gesture Approach
  • learning gestures and how to use them to effectively helps students develop oral language skills
  • simplifying the language so that you may engage exclusively in the Target language with students
  • implementing effective AIM Routines for engagement and successful classroom management
  • using Transition songs develop language skills and create a sense of security and predictability

Day 2
Centre Activities!

In these sessions, we will focus on:

  • the continued development oral language skills
  • how to model activities so that students may effectively engage in centre activities exclusively in French
  • how to ensure that students engage in French only in all activities
  • AIM activities that develop written language skills
  • a variety of concrete activities that take the AIM philosophy into the teaching of social studies, math, science, art and language arts

1. Classroom management
with Pauline Galea, AIM certified Teacher/Mentor, host of Parlez avec Pauline
Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades 2 and up) who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Beginner Training.

In this two hour session, we will focus on:

  • reviewing the AIM strategies and techniques designed to support your classroom management
  • introducing new strategies developed that have worked effectively such as 'le prof du jour'
  • sharing with each other additional systems and strategies that have been effective

2. Creative AIM Activities
with Richard Smith, AIM certified Teacher and AIM Mentor
Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades 6 and up) who have taken the Experienced Foundations, Up your Game with AIM Online Training or live Experienced Training, or AIM Certification Program

In this two hour session, we will focus on:

  • discover wealth of easy-to-use ideas!
  • learn how to promote oral language interaction among older AIM students'
  • learn many CEFR-based authentic language activities and how to use them effectively with your students.

3. Grammar and the AIM
with Edite Sammons, AIM Chief Curriculum Consultant
Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades 3 and up) who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Beginner Training.

In this two hour session, we will focus on:

  • work with the AIM’s inductive Approach to Grammar
  • use the error correction code to help students reflect on their learning
  • develop improved grammar understanding through targeted gesture reviews

4. On AIMe la cuisine
with Mardi Michels, AIM Certified Teacher/Facilitator and author of 'In the French Kitchen with Kids'
For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades 3 and up) who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Beginner Training.

In this two hour session, we will focus on:

  • learn how to “AIM-ify” culture in the French classroom
  • experience Mardi’s units of study around cooking and food for the play Comment y aller and the reader, Jean-Michel, acrobate
  • learn how to have students research typical ingredients and recipes, write research questions and present their knowledge in various formats (including “Tasty-style” cooking videos)
  • learn how to structure a similar unit based on student interest and ability, all using the PDL to make the activities accessible to all

5. Hands-on Gesture Practice with Wendy! (not recorded)
with Wendy Maxwell, Creator of the AIM
For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades K and up) who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Beginner Training. In this interactive session, Wendy will review important high-frequency gestures. You will practise teacher-led self-expression, how to vary your gesture reviews, how to conduct Les contraires reviews and some targeted work with gestures relating to grammar. Wendy will also take requests based on the needs/interests of the group!
