Day 1
Moving students forward with oral language development

In these sessions you will:
  • review and extend your knowledge of AIM techniques and strategies to develop oral language proficiency
  • learn how to ensure that students maintain the target language only and improve their oral language skills!
  • learn fun AIM games that promote oral language development
  • how to begin to refine oral language skills/grammar knowledge through AIM's three-step inductive approach

Day 2:
Promoting creativity with the language in oral and written activities

In these sessions you will:
  • learn how to effectively engage in the most important (and fun!)AIM activity - Oral and Written Story retelling/Extension...and Book Publishing!
  • experience how to develop students' written language accuracy/creativity
  • gain ideas as to how manage effectively partner/group activity time, maintaining the target language only through AIM systems
  • learn about AIM's assessment and student self-assessment tool

You will receive recordings of the sessions to view at your leisure for 90 days!

    Date: August 27, 2021

    1. Classroom management
    with Pauline Galea, AIM certified Teacher/Mentor, host of Parlez avec Pauline
    Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL, Spanish or Immersion students (Grades 2 and up) who have taken at minimum the Beginner Online Training or live in-person Beginner Training.

    In this two hour session, we will focus on:

    • reviewing the AIM strategies and techniques designed to support your classroom management
    • introducing new strategies developed that have worked effectively such as 'le prof du jour'
    • sharing with each other additional systems and strategies that have been effective

    2. Creative AIM Activities
    with Richard Smith, AIM certified Teacher and AIM Mentor
    Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL, Spanish or Immersion students (Grades 6 and up) who have taken at minimum the Experienced Online training, Up your Game with AIM Online Training or live in-person Experienced Training, or AIM Certification Program

    In this two hour session, we will focus on:

    • discover wealth of easy-to-use ideas!
    • learn how to promote oral language interaction among older AIM students'
    • learn many CEFR-based authentic language activities and how to use them effectively with your students.

    3. Grammar and the AIM
    with Edite Sammons, AIM Chief Curriculum Consultant
    Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades 3 and up) who have taken at minimum the Beginner Online Training or live in-person Beginner Training.

    In this two hour session, we will focus on:

    • work with the AIM’s inductive Approach to Grammar
    • use the error correction code to help students reflect on their learning
    • develop improved grammar understanding through targeted gesture reviews

    4. On AIMe la cuisine
    with Mardi Michels, AIM Certified Teacher/Facilitator and author of 'In the French Kitchen with Kids'
    For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades 3 and up) who have taken at minimum the Beginner Online Training or live in-person Beginner Training.

    In this two hour session, we will focus on:

    • learn how to “AIM-ify” culture in the French classroom
    • experience Mardi’s units of study around cooking and food for the play Comment y aller and the reader, Jean-Michel, acrobate
    • learn how to have students research typical ingredients and recipes, write research questions and present their knowledge in various formats (including “Tasty-style” cooking videos)
    • learn how to structure a similar unit based on student interest and ability, all using the PDL to make the activities accessible to all

    5. Hands-on Gesture Practice with Wendy! (not recorded)
    with Wendy Maxwell, Creator of the AIM
    For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students (Grades K and up) who have taken at minimum the Beginner Online Training or live in-person Beginner Training. In this interactive session, Wendy will review important high-frequency gestures. You will practise teacher-led self-expression, how to vary your gesture reviews, how to conduct Les contraires reviews and some targeted work with gestures relating to grammar. Wendy will also take requests based on the needs/interests of the group!
