6-Session Courses:

1. Let’s get started with AIM in Immersion!

Beginner/Refresher course / Cost: $199.00 per teacher
Tentative dates are: Mondays; August 31, September 14, September 28, October 19, November 2, November 23

In these six 75-minute sessions sessions, we will focus on:

  • Developing oral language skills  through the extensive use of the Gesture Approach
  • Simplifying the language so that you may engage exclusively in the Target language with students
  • Implementing effective AIM Routines for engagement and successful classroom management
  • Using Transition songs develop langue skills and create a sense of security and predictability

 

2. Taking AIM into other subject areas

Beginner/Refresher course / Cost: $199.00 per teacher
Tentative dates are: Mondays; January 11, January 25, February 8, February 22, March 8, April 12

In these six 75-minute sessions, we will focus on:

  • The continued development oral language skills
  • How to model activities so that students may effectively engage in centre activities exclusively in French
  • AIM activities that develop written language skills
  • A variety of concrete activities that take the AIM philosophy into the teaching of social studies, math, science, art and language arts




2-Session Courses:

1. Oral and Written Story Retelling
For teachers of Core French or Immersion students (Grades 2 and up) and 
teachers who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Beginner Training.
Dates: October 1st and 8th, 2020

In these two 60-minute sessions, we will focus on how to:

  • introduce the concept of story retelling
  • organize and assess oral story retelling and how to vary the activity to maintain engagement
  • model written story retelling and to promote awareness of spelling and grammar in-process
  • organize and assess student written retelling 


2. Classroom Management Strategies
For teachers of Core French or Immersion students (Grades 2 and up) and
teachers who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Beginner Training.
Dates: October 7th and 14th, 2020

In these two 60-minute sessions, we will focus on: 

  • reviewing the AIM strategies and techniques designed to support your classroom management
  • introducing new strategies developed that have worked effectively such as 'le prof du jour'
  • sharing with each other additional systems and strategies that have been effective

 

3. Reading stories and developing Centre Activities based on them
For Immersion teachers who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Training
DatesNovember 9 & November 16, 2020

In these two 60-minute sessions, we will focus on how to:

  • select the ‘right’ story for immersion students
  • effectively read a story with young students
  • ask questions using AIM strategies in order to develop both proficiency and thinking skills
  • create activities out of the stories for your centres

 

4. Grammar and the AIM’s error correction process

For teachers of Core French or Immersion students (Grades 3 and up) and
teachers who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Beginner Training.
Dates: January 21st and 28th, 2021

In these two 60-minute sessions, we will focus on how to:

  • work with the AIM’s inductive Approach to Grammar
  • use the error correction code to help students reflect on their learning
  • develop improved grammar understanding through targeted gesture reviews


5. How to use games in the AIM Primary Immersion classroom
For Immersion teachers who have taken the Beginner Foundations or live Training
Dates are: March 22 & March 29 
In these two 60-minute sessions, we will:
  • learn a variety of group games that get students speaking
  • discover educational games that encourage the use of pared-down language
  • learn how to use board games to foster spontaneous and authentic communication
